THE LEONESIAN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD. A 16-YEAR-OLD KING. In 1188, representative courts were held for the first time in the world, in which all social classes were represented and had decision-making power: the nobility, the clergy, and, for the first time, the people. These were the Leonese Cortes. In 2013, UNESCO recognized León (Spain) as the Birthplace of Parliamentarism. In this video, we talk about Alfonso IX of León, the "teenage" king who was the architect of this historic milestone.
