Cohutta Wilderness - Conasauga River Trail Solo Overnight Day One
Day 1 - I went for a summer overnight on the Conasauga River Trail in the Cohutta Wilderness located in the Chattahoochee National Forest of north Georgia. My hike began at the Conasauga River Trailhead on the north side of the Cohutta Wilderness and I followed the trail up stream along the Conasauga River. For most of the way the trail follows an old railroad bed used for logging between 1915 - 1930. It is rated a moderate trail for most of my approximately 6 mile hike mainly because of the 20 river crossings. Don't under estimate the amount of time it will take to make all of these crossings or the difficulty during high water events. I camped along the river where the Hickory Creek Trail and the Conasauga River Trail join and run together. I hung my hammock in a very peaceful location where I enjoyed a nice meal and the contentment of a small campfire. Day 2 - After a great night sleep, I made my way back to the Conasauga River Trailhead. I cleaned up my camp site practicing the Leave No Trace principal before crossing the river 20 more times. My hike out was filled with exploration and awe of God's creation. Hope you enjoy the sights found along the trail. Please check out the Day 2 video of my overnight hike in the Cohutta Wilderness on the Conasauga River Trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest. I appreciate you hiking with Sleeves!
