ATU responde por caos en primer día de uso de tarjeta interoperable
The implementation of the exclusive use of the Interoperable Transportation Card (TIT) for accessing Line 2 of the Lima Metro caused long lines and delays at various stations on its first day. From the early hours of Wednesday, dozens of passengers reported difficulties acquiring the new pass, an essential requirement for accessing the service. In response to the criticism, the executive president of the Urban Transportation Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU), David Hernández, stated that the measure aims to begin integrating the transportation system through a personal, unique, and non-transferable pass. The card has been available since July 1st at the Evitamiento, Óvalo Santa Anita, Colectora Industrial, Hermilio Valdizán, and Mercado Santa Anita stations, at a cost of S/ 7.50. The ATU specified that the TIT can only be purchased at ticket offices and vending machines during operating hours, between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Furthermore, the entity's spokesperson, Erick Reyes, explained that each user must have their own card, as this allows for validating both entry and exit from the system. He also indicated that members of the National Police, firefighters, and people with disabilities accredited by CONADIS (National Council for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities) can obtain or renew the card free of charge. USER DISCONTENT Despite the explanations from the authorities, users expressed their discontent with the long waits and limitations on making purchases. At the Evitamiento station, lines of up to fifty minutes were reported, and passengers complained that payment could only be made in cash, with no ATMs available inside the station, a situation that further complicated the start of the mandatory interoperable card system.
