The clash between Donald Trump and Giorgia Meloni, he explains, is a "fairly limited issue," but it fits into a trend that already emerged after the constitutional referendum on justice in March 2026: Giorgia Meloni gains strength, Brothers of Italy holds firm, while the League and Forza Italia are paying the price for the personalized support for the prime minister. The Roberto Vannacci case is the most sensitive issue: polls place his party, National Future, above 5%, even up to 6%, a real figure "precisely because there is political communication" behind it. According to Forti, half of National Future's votes come from the Brothers of Italy party; the rest from the League, former abstainers, former Five Star Movement voters, and the radical right. National Future's entry into the center-right coalition might not significantly increase the coalition's overall support, because it would bring in votes but would also provoke a shift toward the center and the anti-establishment camp: rather, it would significantly change "the internal composition." Across the broader spectrum, Forti doesn't see a clear advantage: gaps of between half a point and three points remain within the margin of error. However, the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement are consolidating their alliance habits; Italia Viva may attract centrist votes, but it could repel a portion of the Five Star Movement electorate. The choice of prime ministerial candidate for 2027 will be crucial: Elly Schlein, Giuseppe Conte, or other candidates could emerge from the primaries, but "everything will be part of the process."
