Three barns destroyed in overnight fire south of Metcalfe | CTV News Ottawa at Six for June 4, 2026

Three barns were damaged in an overnight fire in the 3000 block of 8th Line Road, south of Metcalfe, killing one horse and several chickens. CTV's Dylan Dyson reports that firefighters arriving on scene also had to contend with downed live hydro wires, collapsing structures, and fuel tanks beside the barns that required constant water to prevent an explosion; A cryptosporidiosis outbreak in Kingston has sickened at least 114 people and health officials have not yet identified the source of the parasite that causes the illness. CTV's Katelyn Wilson reports that the Southeast Public Health Unit says water samples from multiple locations across the Kingston area, including the water treatment plant, have all tested negative; and a stretch of above-average temperatures is drawing Ottawa residents to patios and beaches while raising concerns about the safety of low-income tenants without air conditioning. CTV's Tyler Fleming speaks with Sharon Katz of ACORN Ottawa, who says the group is pushing the city to enact a maximum heat bylaw that would require landlords to keep indoor temperatures at or below 26 C, noting that nearly half of low-income tenants in Canada lack air conditioning.
