These little Toyota "Hemi" motors are sought after in the Toyota community. To find one in the U.S. in your own back yard is crazy. It's the equivalent of finding a 427 SOHC motor just across town with all the right NASCAR mods. Some words from Michael about the history of this motor and other versions of it. Toyota partnered with Yamaha to create DOHC engines for several cars in their line up.  The U.S. never received any of those vehicles, but most of Toyota’s other markets did.  In the late 60’s, the first generation of Corollas equipped with the 2TG DOHC Toyota/Yamaha engines were referred to as “Sprinter Trueno” - trueno being the Spanish word for Thunder.   The second gen Corollas (71-74) with the DOHC engines were badged as “Levin” -- an old English word for Lightning.  So Toyota had a Thunder & Lightning theme for their high performance offerings.  An aside -- a slightly different version of the same DOHC head was engineered by Yamaha for Toyota’s SOHC 18R engines -- designated as an 18RG in the DOHC version.  That engine in 2.0L displacement was the high performance offering in the Celica.  And, once again, we were never treated to that little jewel here in the U.S.
