What Happens When You Put NEW Wine Into OLD Wineskins?

In this video we discuss the parable in Luke 5:37-39 says “And who pours new wine into old wineskin? If someone did, the old wineskin would burst and the new wine would be lost. New wine MUST always be poured into new wineskins. • New wine: Represents the new moves of God, which are revolutionary and transformative. It may have never been done before or look like past moves of God. • Old Wineskins: Represent the rigid and outdated religious practices, traditions and mindsets. • Bursting: Just as new wine ferments and expands, the teachings of Jesus will challenge and disrupt the established religious practices we all know and are accustomed to. Trying to contain a new movement within the old framework would lead to conflict, rejection, and ultimately destruction. For example, the Jewish people didn’t realize that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was the new wine and they rejected it because of tradition – only criminals were executed to die. • Fresh Wineskins: Symbolize the need for a new way of thinking, a receptiveness to change, and a willingness to embrace the new. We are moving into a movement of Bridal Love. God is recalibrating His Church, His Bride. The Deeper Meaning: This story of old and new wine highlights the need for spiritual flexibility and openness to change. It warns us against clinging to outdated traditions and mindsets that hinder spiritual growth and transformation. The last verse, "And no one, after drinking old wine, wishes for new; for he says, ‘The old is fine,’” speaks to our human tendency to resist change, even when it's beneficial. People often become comfortable with the familiar, which is soooo limiting. They are reluctant to embrace new ideas or ways of doing things. We have to be open to going deeper, to going higher. In closing • Be open to new ways of thinking and experiencing faith. • Let go of rigid traditions that hinder spiritual growth. • Embrace the transformative power of Jesus's teachings. • Be willing to be changed and renewed by the "new wine" of the Gospel as we read, mediate and live out His word. Repentance is not just saying you’re sorry. It is changing the course you were once following and doing the complete opposite. Trust God and follow Him.
