Did This Pastor Just Claim He's God?
In this video, we examine disturbing statements from Leroy Thompson that appear to blur the line between being made in the image of God and claiming equality with God Himself. Original video: • Video There is a major biblical difference between saying believers are children of God and suggesting that a human being is God, equal to God, or possesses the same authority and nature as the Creator. Scripture consistently teaches that God is unique, eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing, and completely separate from His creation. No pastor, prophet, apostle, bishop, or believer is equal to God. When preachers use phrases such as “I am God,” “we are gods,” or claim that Christians operate on the same level as God, those statements must be carefully examined in context and compared with Scripture. Human beings may represent God, serve God, and reflect His character, but they do not become divine beings who are equal with Him. This kind of teaching can elevate the preacher, diminish the majesty of God, and create an atmosphere where spiritual leaders are treated as untouchable authorities. Once a minister begins presenting himself as possessing divine status, it becomes easier to justify unquestioned obedience, extreme financial demands, and claims that cannot be challenged. In this breakdown, we look at exactly what Leroy Thompson said, the theology behind his statements, and whether his claims can be supported by the Bible. We will also address commonly misused passages such as “ye are gods” and explain why those verses do not teach that human beings are equal to the one true God. This is not a minor disagreement over terminology. The identity and uniqueness of God are foundational Christian doctrines. Christians must test every teaching, regardless of how famous, influential, or experienced the preacher may be.
