UASU announce strike in public universities

The university’s Academic staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU)have announced the start of a nationwide strike in Kenya’s 35 public universities .The strike follows the expiry of a 1 week strike notice issued on the 11th of September 2024.Speaking when they declared the commencement of the nationwide strike at the Technical University of Kenya, the union secretary generals vowed to boycott classes until their 2021/2025 collective bargaining agreement which they tabled on September 4, 2020, is approved. They are demanding consideration of the 7-10% increment in basic salaries that other government workers were given last year as a bare minimum.
