What can Mihai Eminescu tell us today about Romania, about politics and about the destiny of a nation? Beyond the image of the poet who definitively marked Romanian literature, there is an Eminescu less known to the general public: the journalist. A careful observer of reality, involved in the great debates of the time and concerned with the direction in which Romanian society was heading. Sunday, June 21, at 5:00 p.m., on TVR Cultural, the show "Omul și timpul" proposes an incursion into the journalistic universe of Mihai Eminescu and the way in which he interpreted the events that shaped modern Romania. From the Union of the Principalities and the arrival of Carol I, to the War of Independence, the Congress of Berlin and the proclamation of the Kingdom of Romania, Eminescu carefully followed the political and social transformations of his era. The articles published in the press of the time are not only historical testimonies, but also critical analyses of a society undergoing an accelerated process of change. The journalist Eminescu did not limit himself to reporting the facts. He formulated firm opinions, criticized political decisions, signaled slippages and reflected on the relationship between modernization and tradition. The guest of this edition is prof. univ. dr. Nicolae Georgescu, one of the most appreciated Eminescu scholars in Romania, author of important volumes dedicated to Eminescu's journalism and political thought. Recognized for the philological rigor of his research, complemented by historical investigations and studies of the history of mentalities, professor Nicolae Georgescu proposes a nuanced reading of Eminescu's texts and reconstructs the intellectual and political context in which they were written.
