Here Comes the HH-60W Jolly Green II - The U.S. Air Force's New Combat Rescue Helicopter
The HH-60W helicopter will replace the older HH-60G Pave Hawk. Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett unveiled the name at the Air Force Association’s Air Warfare Symposium in Florida. The name “Jolly Green II” is a homage to the HH-3 Jolly Green Giant and HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant helicopters flown by USAF search and rescue teams during the Vietnam War. The large helicopters were painted green and an association with the “Jolly Green Giant,” the famous mascot for the line of frozen vegetables, stuck.
