In This Village, They Fire Up an Old Oven Only Once a Year

We came to the Bulgarian village of Dalgо Pole and saw an old tradition that local families have preserved for many years. On St George’s Day, they fire up their old village ovens, which are passed down from father to son and are usually lit only on this special day. In these ovens, they roast a whole lamb stuffed with rice. Some of the ovens are so large that up to 11 whole lambs can be cooked inside at the same time.
