Sentenced to Death at 22, He Now Helps Men Find Redemption in Prison

At 22, Eddie McLoughlin was sentenced to die in an Arizona gas chamber. Today, he runs a rehabilitation academy inside a North Dakota prison. It’s proof, he'd say, that nobody is beyond redemption. McLoughlin was sentenced to death after a 1980 first-degree murder conviction. The Arizona Supreme Court later reversed the sentence, reducing it to 25 years to life and he was released in 2000. Now an academy manager with Prison Fellowship, he leads a unit where dozens of men live and learn together by building the community, responsibility and trust that the rest of the prison rarely allows. This episode also follows Guy Smith, who completed the academy and came back to serve as a mentor. Smith speaks candidly about surviving a moment of deep crisis, and about finding purpose while incarcerated.
