"Confessions to Allah" is a tailor-made role, shaped by her feelings, her soul, and her talent. She visited "the music box" some time ago to share her unique perspective on the profession, on life, and, of course, on this wonderful play, which returns thanks to the Teatro Lara to fill us with talent, magic, and life. Confessions to Allah is a first-person account of the oppression of women, or perhaps a cry for rebellion—more accurately, a fable born from the despair and misery of a woman from the mountains, or simply the confessions of a young woman to a single confidant: Allah himself. Based on the novel Confidences à Allah by Saphia Azzeddine, Arturo Turón (film director and screenwriter) dared not only to adapt it for the stage but also to make his directorial debut with such a complex work. Jbara (María Hervás) is only 16 years old and lives in the Maghreb mountains in an environment of extreme poverty. Sometimes she allows a local shepherd to use her body in exchange for sweets and yogurt. Ignorance reigns in her village, and women, quite literally, are nothing. One day, a suitcase falls from a bus full of American tourists, opening up a new horizon for her, a whole world to discover... It arrives on June 18th at the Teatro Lara and is a magnificent opportunity not only to discover a magnificent play, but also to understand the temperament, talent, and warmth of an actress who, without a doubt, will become a leading figure in the Spanish theater scene, if she isn't already: none other than the magnificent María Hervás.
