There are over 100 bicycles in Ban Khok, both old and new, from small to large, of all sizes. Just like the people who use them, from children who often gather in groups to cycle through the fields, to middle-aged people who often cycle to the market and other places. The elderly are probably the largest group that uses bicycles, especially to go to the temple, to go shopping, and most importantly, to the vegetable gardens, which almost every household has. The vegetables grown by the villagers are a source of income for the locals. Most bicycles used to go to the vegetable gardens are equipped with long metal racks to carry baskets of vegetables. However, many people in this village, whom the program met, use bicycles for various purposes. For example, Grandma Pruan's Bicycle for a Living Grandma Pruan Phankhao uses her bicycle to sell vegetables to various locations. Every morning, she puts vegetables bought from the village garden in baskets and rides them to sell at various locations in the village, both near and far. She says her bicycle is her lifelong companion, providing her with daily financial means. She tells the story, crying, because without her bicycle, she would be unable to walk and would not be able to sell vegetables, fish, or other items. To this day, Grandma Pruan still uses her decades-old bicycle to go to work and sell her daily goods. A bicycle is medicine. Grandpa On Kaewsarasen once suffered from a blood vessel disease that prevented him from moving freely for a while. But because he had been familiar with cycling since childhood, he decided to fight back and use his bicycle as medicine. Every morning and evening, he would cycle 10-20 kilometers to strengthen his weak legs. After years of cycling, his legs, which had previously been weak, are now strong and able to walk well. He still hasn't stopped cycling. A bicycle is an arm and a leg. Grandma Ma Leesuksam is a passionate cyclist. She says she's been cycling since she was a young girl. She currently has a small bicycle without brakes (she uses her feet to brake), but she still rides everywhere she wants in the village. Grandma Ma's husband, Grandpa Yang, also loves cycling. However, Grandpa Yang's bicycle is a man's bicycle: a large one with a metal bar across the middle. Grandpa Yang recounts that in the past, bicycle use in this village was much greater than today. Every household had one. Everyone would wake up in the morning and ride their bicycle to the fields. Sometimes they would carry 100 kilograms of rice back home because bicycles in those days were strong and could carry it like a strong young man. He laughed and continued, explaining that in the past, when traveling anywhere, there weren't as many cars as there are today. Therefore, people would cycle across subdistricts or districts. Unlike today, where, while there are still plenty of bicycles in the village, they rarely venture outside their area. The program met several villagers who reminisced about their bicycles. They all shared the same story: When their parents went to the fields, they and their younger sibling would ride pillion. It was a warm and happy memory every time they thought about it. Although cycling has decreased these days, they still cycle. Their parents still cycle. Even though their children have motorcycles or cars, their parents often choose to cycle themselves.
