Hello everyone, this is the Namba Lunch Administrator. Today, in order to fulfill my wish to "savor delicious rice to my heart's content!", I visited "Osaka Romantei," a restaurant located near the entrance of Namba Nankai-dori. Climbing the bamboo-decorated staircase from the bustling arcade, a calm, modern Japanese space unfolds, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the first floor. This restaurant is operated by the "Romantei Group," which handles everything from meat wholesale to production at their own farm. True to their philosophy of "food that is good for people," the restaurant is filled with the dedication of food professionals. Today, I had the "Colorful Gourmet Set Meal - Satsuma Gokkei Daimaou Chicken with Yuzu Miso Sauce," available only at lunchtime. While captivated by the rows of colorful small dishes, I took a bite of the main dish, the Daimaou chicken. The meat has a wild, robust texture reminiscent of free-range or mature chicken, and the rich flavor of the meat, along with the fragrant aroma of yuzu miso, is simply irresistible with every bite. And the greatest charm of this meal is the "unlimited refills of rice with various toppings"! The chewy and sweet premium rice, "Niji no Kirameki," can be topped with approximately nine different toppings, including bonito flakes and soy sauce butter, mentaiko mayonnaise, and butcher's meat miso. Not only is the rice itself delicious, but the quality of the side dishes is so high—from the sinfully delicious combination of eggplant broth and bonito flake butter to the high-quality potatoes—that it's truly difficult to pace yourself with the rice and side dishes (lol). My colleague and I were so excited that before we knew it, we were on track to try every single topping, completing a six-bowl loop of white rice. Finally, the rare tea leaves known as "tencha" (the tea leaves used before they are processed into matcha) were placed on top of the rice, and hot broth was poured over it to create an exquisite dashi chazuke (rice with broth), which was a refreshing finish. The attentive service from the staff in traditional Japanese attire was also very pleasant, making it a romantic and satisfying lunch that made me forget I was in the heart of Namba.
