Daily Life of a Joseon King: Mornings, Diplomacy, and Appointing Officials (Part 1) (Korean History)
#korea #koreanhistory #koreanculture #history #joseon #historyofkorea (episode 42) In this latest video series, I will take a look at the daily lives of Joseon kings, from when they wake up to when they go to bed and everything in between. In this first part, I will look at a king’s morning routine, his meetings with different ministers and officials, listening to daily reports, reading and writing different documents and attending Confucian lectures. I will go into details for each of these events. Next, kings would receive foreign envoys from neighbouring countries like Japan, tribes like the Jurchen and imperial envoys from China. These meetings are quite complex and I will talk about how they proceed and the differences when receiving an imperial envoy or other states' envoys. Finally, the king also appointed officials to serve him if they passed the state examinations brilliantly. There were two main examinations: a literary one for future civil officers and a military examination to recruit the best military officers.
