This is another video for people who are preparing for #ETEC and other #Vestibulinhos, as well as #concursos. Another edition of #segundETEC where Professor Renata and I from the channel Eu Adoro Ciência publish questions that have already been in ETEC and Vestibulinhos tests. Professor Renata's channel:    / @euadorociência   (Question 29 - ETEC 2016/2) - Dams are fundamental elements for hydroelectric plants. The trapezoid ABCD in the image is a mathematical model that represents a vertical section of a dam. In the image, the crest measures 10 meters, the height measures 12 meters, the upstream slope measures 13 meters and the downstream slope measures 15 meters. To calculate the measurement of the base, we can divide the figure into other polygons, such as triangles. So, consider a first right triangle that has the upstream slope as its hypotenuse and the height and a part of the base, with measurement x, as its legs. Applying the Pythagorean Theorem to this triangle, we have: x² + 12² = 13² x² + 144 = 169 x² = 169 – 144 x² = 25 Since we are looking for a measurement, the value will be positive, so x = 5. Also consider a second right triangle that has the downstream slope as its hypotenuse and the height and another part of the base, with measurement y, as its legs. After applying the Pythagorean Theorem to the second triangle described, we can conclude that the measurement of the base of the trapezoid is, in meters, (A) 5 (B) 9 (C) 14 (D) 24 (E) 50 BNCC Skill: (EF09MA13) - Demonstrate metric relations of the right triangle, including the Pythagorean theorem, using, including, the similarity of triangles. (EF09MA14) - Solve and develop problems applying the Pythagorean theorem or proportionality relations involving parallel lines cut by secants.
