In Germany, "balcony solar," which generates electricity simply by plugging it into an outlet, has been legalized. However, in Japan, the same technology is prohibited due to regulatory barriers. We explain the differences. In Europe, plug-in solar panels (microinverter type) up to 800W are rapidly gaining popularity. Simply apply online and no construction is required. An era has begun in which residents can generate electricity on their own balconies. In Japan, however, connecting a solar panel to a household outlet is considered "grid-connected" and could be subject to regulation under the Electricity Business Act. While this is intended as a safety measure, it is a technically solvable problem. Four years ago, I purchased a grid-tie inverter on AliExpress and tried generating electricity. It certainly worked and my electricity bill went down, but I still had concerns about whether it was really OK to use it. In the EU, including Germany, solar panels are officially recognized and support systems are in place. Recently, "unregulated mega-solar power plants" have come under criticism. Regulation is certainly necessary to prevent unregulated development. However, it would be a shame to impose similar restrictions on small, safe, community-based power generation. This channel is about the democratization of energy—producing your own electricity and regaining freedom in your life.
