Newstead & Victor - Industrials at the 2026 Spring Spectacular | West Somerset Railway

A third clip compilation, from the West Somerset Railway 2026 Spring Spectacular Steam Gala; featuring Newstead and Victor. Newstead, a Hunslet Works saddle tank locomotive, No. 1589; was originally built in 1929, Leeds, at the Hunslet Engine Company for coal mining sites. It worked until 1972, and was originally thought lost. It was in fact, saved by Mr Malcolm Saul at a Convent, and recovered over 40 years later. It was restored and came back into working service in 2025, and currently resides at the North Norfolk Railway. Victor, is a WG Bagnall Works locomotive, No. 2996; originally built in 1951 for the Steel Company of Wales. In 1973, it was bought for preservation by the West Somerset Railway, running its first directors’ train in December 1975. Although, now residing at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, it made a welcome return visit to the West Somerset Railway, for their 50th anniversary.
