This is Manimani Kwangmani~^^ I spent four days in Daejeon Metropolitan City. This is the first installment of the "Kwangmani Travelogue," the "Daejeon Metropolitan City" edition. On the third day, I visited the Jangdae branch (main branch) of the ramen restaurant "Kaminari Ramen," located in Jangdae-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. I've tried all four major jumbo ramen restaurants in Seoul: Ramen81 Beonok, Sanchome, Kadoya, and Koi Ramen. I was curious to see what jumbo ramen would be like in Daejeon, so I knocked on the door. Uniquely, the Jumbo Ramen Challenge requires you to finish both the ramen and the rice. You have to finish four servings of ramen and rice in 15 minutes. If you succeed, you get a free meal and two meal vouchers. If you fail, you have to pay 30,000 won for the food. So far, only YouTuber Fran and I have succeeded. It was a tonkotsu ramen made with pork bones. The noodles were easy to swallow, the soft, rich flavor of the chashu, the crunchy bean sprouts, and the sudden burst of chili oil all combined to create a perfectly balanced ramen. The temperature was just right, not too hot, so I was very happy throughout the challenge. The owner was so kind and welcoming, it was worth the trip all the way to Daejeon.
