There are two legends about Kızkumu. According to the first, a beautiful princess, the daughter of the King of Bybassos, and a fisherman fall in love. At night, the princess secretly goes to the beach to meet the fisherman. Holding a lamp, she signals the meeting place. When the fisherman sees the light, he rows his boat and sets off. Learning that his daughter has been secretly meeting with the fisherman at night, the king sends his soldiers after her one night. The girl goes down to the beach, lights the lamp, and the soldiers catch her. The soldiers continue to wave the lamp to catch the fisherman. The princess escapes their grasp and begins running toward the sea, and a miracle occurs: every step she takes turns into sand, and the soldiers chasing her are buried in the sea. Just as the girl is reunited with the fisherman, a soldier shoots his arrow at the young man. The arrow hits the princess, not the fisherman, and she dies. The water is stained red with the princess's blood. The beach ends where the princess dies. The young man takes the arrowed princess and disappears in his boat, never to be seen again. According to the second legend, the king of Bybassos lost a long-lasting war with his enemies. The kingdom's famously beautiful princess tried to escape the enemies who had captured the city. Arriving at the seashore, the princess, who couldn't swim, miraculously sprinkled sand around her skirt, creating a path on the sea. Lost in the darkness, the princess drowned when the sand in her skirt ran out.
