La Martiniere College | Lucknow | Uttar Pradesh | India | Sixty and Travelling La Martiniere College, Lucknow is a part of the chain of seven educational institutions spread over Lucknow and Kolkata in India and Lyon in France. This College at Lucknow was set up in 1845. It's a well known educational institution with a sprawling campus on the banks of River Gomti which flows through the heart of Lucknow city. The College has a grand main building and several other constructions around it. When we entered the campus of La Martiniere College, Lucknow, the first things which attracted attention were the well paved roads, all around greenery, and the long drive way which had a Golf Course on one side and a Stable for horses on the other side of the road. Soon after this, we were in front of the grand main building of the College. It's located on the banks of River Gomti and there is a barrage to protect the College from River Gomti in spate specially in rainy season. Before the construction of this barrage, the College had to endure repeated flooding of College campus through its history. On the banks of Gomti there is a monumental tower called Lat. We also saw one fighter jet and one battle tank prominently parked in a sprawling field. These out-of-use military equipment were donated to the College by the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, respectively. Besides the Golf Course mentioned in the beginning, the College has several other play grounds, many of which had children of different age groups (mainly hostellers) playing during our walk around. It was an interesting walk through this well laid out educational institution. Bye for now, till our next outing.
