Koh Chang Thailand 🇹🇭 | Stunning Beaches, Best Local Food & Transfer to Bangkok (2025)

We travelled to Koh Chang, Thailand — the country’s second-largest island — in search of stunning beaches, great food, and a break from the chaos of Bangkok. After arriving on a Boonsiri catamaran at Bang Bao Pier, we hopped in a songthaew transfer (included in the boat ticket price) and headed to our accommodation at Pajamas Hostel near Klong Prao Beach. While the hostel came at hotel prices, the beach more than made up for it — soft golden sand, calm waves, and some of the best sunsets we’ve seen in Thailand. Our first meal was at Jae Gloy Restaurant, a fantastic budget-friendly spot popular with both locals and tourists, before heading back to the beach for that unreal Koh Chang sunset. The next morning started at Uncle Kamnan’s Boat Noodles (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือลุงกำนัน เกาะช้าง) — a local gem with no English sign but easily one of the tastiest bowls of noodles we had on the island. After that, we explored White Sand Beach (which felt too developed and touristy for us), before finding the more laid-back vibe at Kai Bae Beach. Dinner that night was at The U Turn, where we finally got a Thai salad that was genuinely spicy. Our time on Koh Chang ended with a bit of drama — almost missing our ferry off the island due to a late transfer. From there, we boarded the government-run 999 bus to Bangkok. Be aware: it doesn’t drop you directly at Suvarnabhumi Airport, but at the Public Transport Terminal (5km away). Luckily, there’s a free shuttle, but it’s often crowded and slow. Once we finally reached the airport, we headed straight to the Magic Food Court (a lifesaver for budget-friendly airport meals). We stayed overnight at At Residence, a reliable and affordable Bangkok airport hotel, before flying north to Chiang Mai the next day.
