Settle Down Country - the Pintubi return home - 1982

Documents the return of the Pintubi people to their traditional homelands in 1982 and their determination to establish their own community at Kintore in the far western region of the Northern Territory. Their traditional nomadic lives came to an end after they were removed and taken into Government run settlements like Papunya. A devastating drought and the Woomera Rocket Range tests contributed to this removal. Extensive use of archival footage offers an added historical perspective to this account of the efforts of the Pintubi to retain their cultural heritage. The film is Based on the book of the same name by Dick Leichleitner Japanangka and Pam Nathan. Directed, shot and edited by David Batty in 1982.
