Channel your inner RZA -- MPC 3000 + '70s cinema
Today I sampled a '70s Japanese exploitation film directed by Shunya Itō and made a few '90s style lo-fi boom bap beats entirely with sounds from the score. This is a technique used by Boards of Canada, VHS Head, RZA and countless others sample-based producers. This movie is hard to categorize -- lots of extreme zooms, dramatic lighting, lush '70s colors, trashy nudity, questionable plot, & over-the-top B-movie violence -- but beneath the dated cheesiness is a really bold visual interpretation of a revenge flick with a silky soundtrack reminiscent of composers like Ennio Morricone. All in all, I could sample films like this all day long (and i understand why producers like the RZA did back in the '90s). 0:00 - 0:53 - intro and sampling technique 0:54 - 1:39 - scenes from the film 1:40 - 4:14 - first beat (akai s3000xl) 4:15 - 4:45 - second beat (akai 3000xl) 4:46 - 5:54 - starting from scratch on the mpc 3000 5:55 - 7:23 - creating a b-section 7:24 - 8:17 - final mix after tracking via 8 outs 8:18 - 9:08 - outro & final thoughts 9:09 - 9:26 - bonus beats weekly beats (& more videos): patreon.com/eddieleonard ig: _eddieleonard releases eddieleonard.bandcamp.com
