THE PEANUT VENDOR (El Manisero) - Moises Simons - Alto Sax - Free score

The first time I encountered this song I was studying at the Conservatory of Amsterdam for my jazz master program and we were having a big band concert dedicated to Stan Kenton. He made a terrific arrangement of this tune and I thought it was his own composition. Only a bit later I found out that it was written by Moises Simons in 1930 and it was one of the most profitable Latin songs of all time, making 100000 dollars (at that time dollar value) in 13 years. From Wikipedia: The Peanut Vendor has been recorded more than 160 times. Because of its cultural importance, in 2005 "The Peanut Vendor" was included into the United States National Recording Registry by the National Recording Preservation Board, which noted: "It is the first American recording of an authentic Latin dance style. This recording launched a decade of 'rumbamania', introducing U.S. listeners to Cuban percussion instruments and Cuban rhythms." The song was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.
