Deconstructing One After 909 - The Beatles Rooftop Concert (Isolated Tracks)
Back with another song from the Rooftop. One After 909 is one of the most fascinating songs since it's the only song that was properly recorded in two different eras. The song was originally written in early during the Quarrymen period from the late 1950s possibly around 1958. It was one of the first Lennon McCartney collaborations although mostly written by John. The song was first put to tape on 1960 through a tape recorder provided by Paul. Again in 1962 the song was recorded this time at The Cavern Club on September 3rd. Finally the song was recorded properly in studio on March 5, 1963 during the From Me To You session. However this version was eventually passed up on. It wasn't until the January 3, 1969 during the Get Back sessions that the song was revisited. The song was well received so was put on the list of potential songs for the concert that was to occur. The song was rehearsed on January 28th and 29th. One take with Billy Preston on a normal piano was released on the 2021 Let It Be boxset. Then on January 30th the final version was recorded on the rooftop concert. Thus marking this the only song to be recorded in two distinct eras. Quite happy with how this one turned out especially Billy's piano.
