Lyle Mays, one of the greatest musical minds of our generation, has passed. In order to honor him, and to shed light on a musician I feel whom is often overlooked, I've begun putting together a series of videos that analyze Lyle's playing and compositional style. In this first part, Lyle Mays the Composer Part 1, we're taking a look at his writing, first using Pat Metheny as a point of reference with which to compare him, and then analyzing his writing on its own.
