The game was developed by a team of four Newgrounds users, Cameron "ninjamuffin99" Taylor, David "PhantomArcade" Brown, Isaac "Kawai Sprite" Garcia, and evilsk8r. In Fish and Chips, Ruby and Fries (unintentionally) end up helping Rusty Coin and Anchor patch up their friendship. However, this timeline assumes that they didn't show up that day- and as a result, the two bickered more and more. One day, while on the brink of capturing the fabled Chompy, Rusty Coin proclaims that he will finally be successful in his goal without anyone else's help, angering Anchor. They begin to fight, which comes to a peak when Rusty Coin accidentally shoves Anchor overboard who, being an anchor, sinks to the ground. Rusty Coin tries his best to save his friend, but is unable to pull up such tremendous weight, and Anchor drowns as a result. Paralyzed in shock, Rusty doesn't notice Chompy swimming up behind him. The hungry fish attempts to eat Rusty, and viciously tears his face off before spitting the coin back out- no one likes the taste of metal, after all. Now, Rusty aimlessly traverses the lake, racked with guilt and in a constant state of numbness, hoping that one day Chompy will return to finish the job to atone for his sin of pride.
