Zenderonderzoek halsbandparkieten

🦜 The ring-necked parakeet is a bird that enjoys spending time in and around cities. With its bright green plumage and loud call, it is a striking sight there. However, the parakeet is not native; it originates from Africa and South Asia. In the countries where it establishes itself, the ring-necked parakeet can cause a nuisance and threaten native biodiversity. That is why we call it an invasive alien species. 🪽 To understand how the ring-necked parakeet moves and behaves in our landscape, PhD student Frouke De Witte is conducting a radio tracking study. The results of this study will contribute to the ecological knowledge of the species and the development and optimization of management strategies. 👉 If you want to know more about the research, click on the link: https://www.vlaanderen.be/inbo/nieuws... 🤝 This PhD is being conducted via a Fundamental Research Grant from the Fund for Scientific Research - Flanders (FWO). #ringneckparakeet #inbo #research #invasivespecies #ius
