Unlike most lathe tailstocks, which work on a screw mechanism, I use a lever-actuated ram. This construction is strong and durable, but also easy to build. My tailstock also incorporates a genuine MT2 taper in the ram, which allows us to use ANY standard tailstock accessory including centers and chucks.
