Digging into John D. McDonald’s Life and Florida’s Literary History- Florence M. Turcotte- April 13

The Smathers Library Special Collections is one of the sometime overlooked treasures at the University of Florida. Curators there gather documentation on a wide variety of subjects – preserving their history and enhancing our understanding of their relevance. This course offers the opportunity to enjoy six of these collections – each a fascinating slice of history. Digging into John D. McDonald’s Life and Florida’s Literary History Presenter: Florence M. Turcotte, Literary Manuscripts Archivist Author of 78 books and nearly 600 short stories, including the Travis McGee detective series, MacDonald is an acknowledged master of the adventure-thriller genre. He was also very civically active, and served on the board of the Ringling Brothers School of Art. Florence Turcotte will share rich details from the collection, and will share her exciting new project, to publish material from the archive.
