Welcome to our performance of "The Lord's Prayer," composed by Albert Hay Malotte. It is a privilege to share this powerful and heartfelt rendition featuring Zandre Alexander on vocals and Christopher Sambo on piano. Portions of this video were filmed inside the beautiful Riversdale South Congregation (New Apostolic Church), whose sacred setting beautifully complements the message of this timeless work. The Story Behind the Music: While the text of "The Lord's Prayer" (Matthew 6:9–13) has been spoken for millennia and set to music by numerous composers, American pianist and composer Albert Hay Malotte created the definitive version in 1935. Malotte was a remarkably versatile musician, having worked as a church organist, a silent film accompanist, and even a composer for early Disney animations. When asked what inspired him to write this majestic setting, Malotte simply replied that the melody "came from within." He combined his deep roots in sacred choir music with his film-scoring dramatic sensibilities, creating a through-composed piece that builds from an intimate, gentle invocation into a breathtaking, powerful declaration of praise ("For thine is the kingdom...") before ending in a peaceful, quiet "Amen." Rejected by publishers at first, the piece became an instant masterpiece when it was championed on the radio by baritone John Charles Thomas, and it remains one of the most beloved sacred solos in history.
