When Carol walks into a New York department store and meets Therese an unlikely friendship sparks. Carol is a socialite going through a bitter divorce while Therese is just starting out in life. Mesmerized by each other, they face a choice: deny their hearts’ desires or defy society’s conventions. Born in California in 1961, Todd Haynes, along with Kelly Reichardt and Gus Van Sant, now belongs to a family of independent American filmmakers who grew up in the heart of the counterculture. As a special guest of Centre Pompidou Cinemas, he presents "Carol" (2015) with Cate Blanchett.
