The Beatles - Two Of Us (cover by Luis Gomes)
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Let It Be release, I'd like to pay a tribute performing one of my favourite tracks... "Two Of Us". The opening song on the Beatles final album was written by Paul McCartney in late 1968, about his predilection for being deliberately lost in the country with future wife Linda. The lyrics contain references to the group's business problems with Apple Corps and likely references to his relationship with John Lennon, with both of them perfectly aware that their time as members of the Beatles was coming to an end. The song dislays the relief felt by McCartney for being able to leave these problems behind and enjoy pleasent and peaceful moments with Linda. The first day that Paul performed "Two Of Us" for the rest of the group - titled as "On Our Way Home" at that time - was on January 2, 1969. This was the first day of rehearsals filmed on Twickenham Film Studios for Get Back Project. After countless rehearsals, ideas and warm arguments between Paul and George Harrison, the electric rock song was reworked around acoustic guitars and the Beatles recorded it properly over three sessions at Apple Studios in Saville Row, London, in the end of that month. Paul and John singing and strumming their acoustic guitars while George improvises a brilliant bass line on his electirc guitar and Ringo keeps the beat on his bass drum. Lennon whistles the coda to "Hello Goodbye" at the song's conclusion. In between takes, they also busked through versions of McCartney's "Teddy Boy" and a traditional Liverpudlian song called "Maggie Mae" that would also end up on the 1970 Let It Be album. For the LP version of "Two Of Us", producer Phil Spector added, as a spoken introduction to the song, a snippet of unrelated studio humor by Lennon saying "I Dig A Pigmy' by Charles Hawtrey and the deaf-aids! Phase one, in which Doris gets her oats!", which was omitted in the 2003 Let It Be... Naked version. A simple folk song, beautifully performed in a style that reminds me their first single "Love Me Do" and sung on an Everly Brothers' close-harmony style. Just lovely! Hope you guys enjoy as much as I did!!! Stay safe and Peace & Love everybody!!!
