The Absinthe Story: How the green fairy was hidden for 100 years
Still heavily controlled all over the world, Absinthe is a drink with many myths and many secrets. But why is Absinthe so seductive? Apart from its amazing taste, some of the key answers lie in its mystery. Did Van Gogh really cut its ear after drinking too much of it? Is it that hallucinogenic to a point that it becomes dangerous? And if not, why was it constitutionally forbidden for a century in the same place where it was born - in a small region of Switzerland, in Val-de-Travers, Jura? And to pursue the investigation, what exactly makes Absinthe so special that people of this region were ready to go underground to carry on with the distillation of this mythical drink? You’ll discover it all in this video! We want to address special thanks to Nicolas Giger, the President of Association “Pays de l’Absinthe” who nowadays still leads some tours on “Road of Absinthe”, a path that travels through Switzerland and France, following the historical and mythical places of the Green Fairy. Special thanks as well to Philippe Martin, who graciously opened us the doors of its distillery and shared some of the secrets of the Absinthe making. To finish, we could’nt have done this video without the support of the region Jura & 3 Lakes, who financially and humanly supported us!
