Exploring US Census Data: Basic Concepts
This is the first in a series of screencasts where I demonstrate how to find and access US census data using a variety of websites and tools. This first video is a slide presentation and prerequisite for all the screencasts that will follow: I cover basic concepts that you need to understand in order to effectively search for and use US census data. I provide an overview of the decennial census, American Community Survey, and population estimates, and cover the four choices you need to make when searching or browsing for data: dataset, time period, topics or subject categories, and geography. For a thorough researcher's guide to the US Census, check out my book: Exploring the US Census: Your Guide to America's Data by SAGE publications: https://atcoordinates.info/census-book/.
