Flair NEO Flex Espresso maker: a brilliant brewer or home barista novelty?

In this video, I take a look at Flair's budget model, manual espresso coffee maker, the NEO Flex. You'll want the instructions for this one! I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of pieces in the box when I first opened it up. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it though. I highly recommend the optional pressure gauge. The training caps only tell you when you're way over-doing the pressure on the lever, but don't give you much of an idea where it should be. The gauge works great and is really precise. Beware however that it is not water resistant and I've had it fog up pretty bad from getting splashed with water. Fortunately it cleared up after resting on the drying rack for a bit. Cleaning the Neo Flex is a bit of a challenge when it's hot. Getting the plunger out is nearly impossible without rinsing it with cold water first. This is a major downside of the Neo Flex. If you want to make a drink for yourself and a friend it is going to take some time, especially if you're using a manual coffee grinder. I want to explore some alternatives for manual, home espresso brewing. I think my next purchase will be a Rok or maybe a higher end Flair model that uses a legitimate portafiler.
