So for my first food truck stop on the channel, I went to Patty Smashers & Shakes, a Wisconsin food truck serving burgers, shakes, cheese curds, and fries cooked in beef tallow. A few things stood out before I even ordered. Patty Smashers & Shakes advertises a farm-to-fork approach, uses beef tallow for its fries, and builds the menu around burgers and shakes. That is a strong promise for a food truck. The biggest surprise was not the burger or the fries fried in beef tallow. I would put it above Shake Shack’s shake. If you stop at Patty Smashers & Shakes and skip the shake, you missed the strongest part of the menu. I also tried the beef tallow fries, cubed fried cheese curds, the Spicy Smash, and the Wisco Smash. The fries were crispy and well-seasoned. The cheese curds were crispier than the standard breaded curds you usually see. The Spicy Smash was my favorite burger because the jalapeños, onions, cheese, and chipotle ranch gave it enough moisture and a balanced flavor. The Wisco Smash had the right Wisconsin idea: provolone, bacon, cheese curds, and a lot of richness. But it was a little too one-note for me. It needed something sharp, crisp, or saucy to cut through all that fat and cheese. Overall, Patty Smashers & Shakes is a good Wisconsin food truck with a very strong shake, crispy beef tallow fries, solid curds, and burgers that do enough to make the stop worth it. The shake is non-negotiable.
