The Treaty's provisions restricted Germany's economic growth by forcing it to pay war reparations to the other countries involved. It also limited its military expansion. The result was a dire economic situation in Germany during an already difficult period for the global economy. This situation—a depressed German population, a depressed German economy—set the stage for a mad, manipulative, and horrible dictator to seize power.
