Fuerte temblor de magnitud 5.1 se sintió este miércoles en Colombia

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck in the early hours of Tuesday, June 17, 2026, in the municipality of Los Santos, Santander, one of the most seismically active areas in the country. According to the updated bulletin from the Colombian Geological Survey (SGC), the event occurred at 5:51 a.m. (local time) and its epicenter was located 8 kilometers from Los Santos, in the department of Santander. Where did the earthquake occur? The official report indicates that the seismic event was located at latitude 6.82 and longitude -73.14, in an area near the so-called Bucaramanga Seismic Nest, known for registering a high frequency of earthquakes in Colombia. The map released by the SGC shows that the epicenter was located south of Bucaramanga and relatively close to other municipalities in Santander, as well as cities like Tunja and Cúcuta. Depth of the Seismic Event One of the most relevant aspects of the report is that the earthquake had a depth of 146 kilometers, classifying it as an intermediate event. These types of tremors are usually felt across a wide region of the country due to the depth at which they occur. Was it felt in other cities? So far, authorities have not reported any material damage or injuries. However, due to its magnitude and depth, it is possible that the tremor was felt in municipalities of Santander and nearby departments.
