The Chamurti is a small mountain pony almost exclusively found in Pin Valley. Also known as the Spiti Pony, it is one of the 6 recognised horse breeds of India. What makes the Chamurti special is that it is one of the few natural “pacers” in the horse world. It trots side to side on its laterals rather than diagonals enabling the rider to sit comfortably for hours at a time. Almost every family in Pin Valley is involved in the Chamurti business.
