Saigal was a born talent and he started singing at a very early age after being trained in Indian classical music. In his prolifique career K. L. Saigal has sang and acted in a number of hindi films. The most notable of them was Pramathesh Chandra Barua's adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's Devdas. K L Saigal has delivered enormous number of hit songs for various films like Devdas, shahjehan, President, Bhakt Surdas and Tansen. His song " Jab dil hi toot gaya" from the film shahjehan directed by A.R. Kardar which released in 1946 is still held as one of the most passionate songs sung with ethos in the history of hindi film music. Trivia : 1)In a career of fifteen years, Saigal acted in 36 feature films - 28 in Hindi, seven in Bengali, and one in Tamil. 2)In December 1941, Saigal moved to Mumbai to work with Ranjit Movietone. Here he acted and sang in a number of successful films.
