Is a visit to Bamburgh Castle worth it? 1400 years of shocking history.
In this weeks video I visit Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland. It is a place I had always wanted to visit, not because of it's connections with a recent successful Netflix series (The Lost Kingdom filming location) but because of it's 1400 year place in history and it's important strategic position on the Northumberland coast. I really enjoyed making this video - but the research was really tough! The castle was purchased by "The Magician of The North" Lord William Armstrong in 1894 and became a pleasure palace of Victorian romantism. The castle we can visit today is a jumble of collections, time periods and seemed more of a theme park kind attraction than a historical visit. In todays video I tell you what I found out about the true history of the castle alongside what we can see today. I was left feeling confused with my visit and this one has taken ages to "put out there" due to my conflicting thoughts - so be kind! I am Lucy, social historian, and all round nosey parker about the people of the past. I visit, film, script, edit all my videos myself and absolutely love doing so!
