Nobels ODR-1 BC | Could this be the ultimate overdrive pedal? Review & Demo
Today, we’re taking an in-depth look at one of the underrated classics of the transparent overdrive pedal genre: the Nobels ODR-1 BC Bass Cut edition! Get the ODR-1 BC here: https://thmn.to/thoprod/486304?offid=... The ODR-1 has been around for decades, but up until fairly recently it was something of a secret weapon among guitar players in the know. It’s long been the tonal weapon of choice for Nashville’s top session players – like Tom Bukovac – and in recent years it’s started to break out and become one of the main stompboxes in discussions about transparent overdrives. The classic ODR-1 pedal features three controls – Level, Drive, and Spectrum (which controls the tone by adjusting the lows and highs yet leaving the mids untouched at all times) – and while it’s excellent for adding anything from a bit of top end tonal sparkle to your tone to delivering full-on heavy rock overdrive sounds, the pedal did have one criticism from some corners: there’s too much bass on tap! This is something Nobels have now addressed with the Bass Cut edition. The pedal features an internal switch that you can toggle to either have the Bass Cut engaged or disengaged, and the idea is to remove any of those unwanted low-end frequencies that can make your tone too boomy, loose or flubby. Turning on the Bass Cut, especially when using humbuckers, should add some much-wanted tightness. In this video, I put the ODR-1 BC to the test in as many different musical styles as I can, from country, folk and indie, to pop, rock, blues, punk, metal and more. I use my Fender Telecaster for single coil tones, and my Epiphone Les Paul for the humbucking sounds. As a bonus, I also compare the ODR-1 BC to its smaller brother, the ODR-Mini! That went from the amp’s Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my Boss RC-10R to play the loops. Here’s some links to those bits of gear: ----- H&K Black Spirit 200 head: https://thmn.to/thoprod/447827?offid=...
