Honda Civic 1.8L L4 Starter Diagnostic, Replacement with the axle left in! (For 2006 - 2011 Civic's)

After a freezing night we went to start the Civic and it wouldn't turn over. Figured it was the battery so we started there and topped off the maintainable battery that has the caps on the top you can open with distilled water. There are plastic tubes that go down into the battery and you can see where the water touches the bottom of the tube and there were 3 that didn't have water touching which meant they were low. Once we topped them off we let the battery charge overnight on a Battery Tender trickle charger (means it doesn't charge fast) and the next day it was charged up real good. We turned the key over and it still wouldn't start. Then I remembered there's an effective and cost efficient way to test a starter, bang on it with a hammer. I used an extension and hit it against the starter with a hammer and the next time we turned the key over it started right away. No lag, no lull, no clicking. We turned it off and tried again and it started up again. But, we know the starter was locked up so it's time to replace that bad boy and not have to worry about it again. Please follow my step by step instructions in the video to see how you can replace the starter yourself. I highly recommend you have the right tools and have a lift or at least good jack stands to get it up off the ground a fair amount so it's easier to work under. I didn't lift the car that much and don't have a lift, and this is the #2 problem I had that took me longer to do this job, even though technically it's a simple part physically it is very hard to get to. My arms and hands can attest to that! The #1 reason this job took so long is that the hardest bolt to get to; the 14mm bolt above the starter under the back of the air intake, CROSS-THREADED when I went to install it. Because you cant see squat up in there the bolt got started at a slight angle in the hole without me noticing until I pulled the bolt out and saw aluminum flecks falling down. Once I realized this and that there's no possible way to get a tap in that small area to re-tap the hole, I got out from under the car and walked away, kept my cool, got a drink of water and calmly went back under the car, removed the new starter and restarted the top bolt making sure it was perfectly in line, hoping that because I only cross threaded the 1st 2 threads at most, I would be able to get the bolt to follow the threads again and be able to tighten the bolt all the way in to make sure it was clear. Then I took the bolt back out, realigned the starter back in place, and got the bolt back in and got it tightened up no problem. WHEW WHAT A JOB! The replacement starter has a lot of the same designed stamped into the metal and appears to be an OEM direct fit replacement. As you can see at the end of the video we got the starter I stalled and the negative terminal on the battery reinstalled and the car started up just fine. We went ahead and turned it off and started it again just to make sure it was working well. Hopefully this starter lasts another 150k miles! I recommend this product!
