ORBS:2021 is a continuation of the sculpture ORBS:2018. I preserved the breath of my loved ones in glass spheres, both to protect it and to show the difference between the various versions of the ORBS project. The breath of my loved ones was preserved and displayed to the public in tabernacles that incorporated distinctive traits of each individual's personality. The purpose of this project is to preserve a photograph of my loved ones, frozen at the exact moment their breath was preserved. The idea arose when I read somewhere that the word ALOHA combines two distinct meanings: "Alo" means recognition or acceptance, and "Ha" means the breath of life. Therefore, by saying "aloha" to someone, you acknowledge—both physically and verbally—that you are in the presence of another person's breath of life. My idea was to find an artificial vessel to substitute for the body; thus, by blowing into a glass bubble, the essence of the person would be preserved like a biological photograph. I invite the public to imagine what the person preserved within the sphere is like, based solely on the object and a name: What do they look like? What are they afraid of? What do they love? What is the state of the world at that moment? What are their emotions? According to biblical tradition, God breathed life into human beings by breathing into a clay figure; similarly, the glass sphere acts as a substitute for a new body, sealing and storing a small part of the person as long as the sphere remains intact. Each bubble or "sphere" is unique to each individual, and its base incorporates symbolic elements of the life and personality of the person in question. The project's objective is to preserve the essence of the individual and permanently halt the participant's aging process. The sphere functions as an artificial vessel that replaces the body. All of them are sealed with wax from a consecrated candle and are held in delicate balance on a golden base. This work was created with the utmost respect for my religion, in the hope that a part of our souls would be preserved along with our breath. The sculpture includes eleven carefully selected people: my mother, my father, my brother, my sister, my two best friends, our three dogs, my sister's partner, and myself.
