Experience Noche de San Juan 2026 – the most magical and eagerly awaited summer evening in Gran Canaria, filmed live on location at Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas. In this video, I walk the length of the beach area around Anexo II, where thousands of people gather to celebrate the classic Spanish Midsummer tradition with music, fire, rituals, night-time swims and fireworks over the Atlantic. San Juan is one of the biggest events of the year in southern Gran Canaria and attracts both locals and tourists. The festivities kick off as early as 8 pm with a batucada parading through the area, followed by zancudos, fire-breathers, witches, magicians and other magical characters leading the crowd down to the beach. On the stage at Anexo II, there’s live music, dancing and performances from acts including Yet Garbey and La Mekánica by Tamarindos, two of the most popular acts at this year’s celebrations. The beach fills up with families, young people, picnic blankets, barbecues, bars and beachside eateries, which are particularly busy on this particular evening. It’s a unique blend of Canarian tradition, a modern festival atmosphere and the first major party of the summer. When the clock strikes midnight, the celebrations reach their climax: ✨ A massive fireworks display lights up the sky over the Atlantic, illuminating the whole of Playa del Inglés and marking the official start of summer. The tradition symbolises purification, hope, new opportunities and leaving the old behind. After the fireworks, the party continues with DJ Toni Bob, dancing on the beach and a midnight swim – which, according to tradition, is said to bring good luck for the new year.
