In Conversation With Film Producer Jonathan Cavendish & his Mother Diana Cavendish - END POLIO NOW
BY INVITATION ONLY event to join Ravi Ravindran, Chair of The Rotary Foundation and Past RI President, in conversation with film producer Jonathan Cavendish and his mother Diana. Jonathan’s films include the polio movie Breathe about his father and legendary polio survivor Robin Cavendish MBE and mother Diana. Robin and Diana became advocates for the disabled following his paralysis from the disease at the age of 28 in 1958 and being given just months to live. Diana made it possible for Robin to leave the hospital despite being on a ventilator and was determined that he lived as full a life as possible despite being severely disabled. Working together they not only improved the quality of his life but the lives of other paralysed people, traveling the world to inspire others as campaigners for the disabled. He worked with friend Teddy Hall to develop a wheelchair with a built-in respirator freeing him from being bedridden and also worked on numerous other devices to improve the quality of life of disabled people. In 2017, Robin and Diana received the Patient Innovation Lifetime Achievement Award for their work developing innovations and advocating for people with disabilities. Jonathan is passionate about continuing their efforts. Jonathan’s other movies include the Bridget Jones film series, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, and many TV dramas. Jonathan founded the production company The Imaginarium with actor and director Andy Serkis in 2011.
